ORLAND PARK— For one glorious night, the roles were reversed, and the tables turned.
More than 100 mothers, players and cheerleaders took part in the inaugural “Eighth Grade Moms’ Night,” a celebration marking the special bond between mothers and the Varsity players and cheerleaders of the Orland Park Pioneers.
The event played out during a two-hour event at the gym at Sandburg High School. Sandburg football coach Sheamus Murphy made a short presentation.

The night was a special jamboree of food, fun and group interaction.
Mary Peisker and Kristen Doftert helped organize the first-time event. Their sons, Nicholas Peisker and Hudson Doftert, are two-way standouts.
“We’re very grateful and proud,” Kristen Doftert said. “We spend so many years running from practices to games, and sitting together on the sidelines that you don’t always stop and appreciate how special this time is.
“Seeing all the moms and boys together, knowing how close the moms have become and how much we genuinely love watching and cheering each other’s kids, made me realize how lucky we’ve been to share this experience together.”
