St Charles East Rules the Dekalb Regional

The top two teams at the Dekalb Regional each advanced 13-wrestlers to the Conant Sectional to be held on Febuary 9-10 in Hoffman Estates.

The main difference when it came to the team title was that St. Charles East saw 11 of its grapplers advance to the Regional Championship bout while Dekalb placed five with a chance at the title.

St. Charles East would go on to captured seven Championships while Dekalb won two. The Saints feature three top ranked 3A wrestlers in Illinois by FloWrestling. Dom Munaretto at 113; Ben Davino at 132 and Tyler Guerra at 138.

The Saints also feature other ranked wrestlers in their lineup. They include Jayden Colon who is second ranked at 144, while Gavin Connolly is ranked third at 150; Brody Murray is fourth at 175 and Anthony Gutierrez is fifth at 165.

The final team scores saw St. Charles East win the Dekalb Regional with a score of 260, followed by Dekalb at 190, Glenbard North at 151.5 and Wheaton North at 111.


Rocco Macellaio (30-12) of Wheaton North wins an 8-2 decision over Declan Sons (26-7) of St. Charles North for the 106-pound title.

At 113-pounds, Top- Ranked in 3A, Dom Munaretto (41-2) of St. Charles East grinds out the 9-5 decision over Dominick Marre (29-6) of Glenbard North.

Kalani Khiev (32-4) of Glenbard North looks at the referee during his close 4-0 decsion win over Liam Aye (21-21) of St. Charles East for the 120-pound title.

Christian Chavez (33-4) of Glenbard North has the advantage over St. Charles East’s Gavin Woodmancy (27-17) during their 126 Championship. Chavez won by a 9-1 Major Decision.

At 132-pounds, Illinois’ top-ranked Ben Davino (43-0) of St. Charles East (R) looks for an opening against David Hyde (25-15) of Wheaton North. Davino made quick work soon after with a Fall in 0:39.

Illinois’ top 3A 138-pounder’ Tyler Guerra (42-1) of St. Charles East has Hudson Ikens (27-11) of DeKalb, all twisted during their Championship match. Guerra won the Regional title soon after by Fall at 1:52.

Jayden Colon (34-5) of St. Charles East scores back points against Mekhi Cave (38-7) of DeKalb. Colon went on to win by 10-1 Major Decision.

The 150 Regional title went to Gavin Connolly (34-10) of St. Charles East. Here he has Rylan Kradle (34-7) of Glenbard North in trouble. Connolly won by a 5-0 decision.

Thomas Fulton (36-8) of Wheaton North (R) tries to headlock Payton Marzen (26-9) of Geneva. Fulton captured the 157 title by a 3-1 decision.

At 165, Jacob Luce (38-2) of DeKalb (L) looks for an advatage against Anthony Gutierrez (32-9) of St. Charles East. Luce won by a 6-2 decision.

Brody Murray (36-8) of St. Charles East (top) has a secure hold of Sean Kolkebeck (34-11) of DeKalb during their 175-pound Championship. Murray won by 6-4 decision.

Tyler Ott (26-11) of Glenbard North (R) battled Cooper Murray (26-16) of St. Charles East for the 190 title. The tight match went to Ott by 2-1 decision.

Lamar Bradley (34-6) of DeKalb (top) has Geneva’s Joe Pettit (36-5) in a vulnerable position. Bradley gained the advantage and secured the win by Fall in 5:08 at 215-pounds.

The 285-pound title went to Matt Medina (26-12) of St. Charles East after pinning Wheaton Norths’ Carl Givens (3-4) at the 2:58 mark of the second period.
